Australia has suffered a big setback even before the start of their three-match T20I series against New Zealand, as wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis has been ruled out due to a calf issue. The 30-year-old, who recently represented the Baggy Greens in the white-ball series against South Africa, may spend some time on the sidelines with the injury. In his place, Alex Carey will fly to New Zealand for the T20 International series.
Inglis sustained the injury after a jogging workout in Perth on Tuesday and had scans on Wednesday. Following this, he was ruled out of the T20I series against New Zealand, which is due to begin on October 1. Due to this injury, Carey, who was expected to play for South Australia in the first Sheffield Shield round, has changed his plans and has been named to the Baggy Greens squad for the T20I against the Black Caps.
Another setback for Australia Inglis is one of four key Australian players who will not be accompanying the team to New Zealand. Pat Cummins had previously been ruled out of the series owing to a lumbar bone stress injury, while Nathan Ellis had declared himself unavailable for selection due to the upcoming birth of his first child. Cameron Green was also left out so he could compete in the Sheffield Shield and prepare for the vital Ashes series.
