Commuters have been left stranded in the Buffalo City Metro in the Eastern Cape due to a taxi strike.

The Mdantsane East London Taxi Association embarked on a strike this morning leaving residents unable to commute to work and school.

The strike follows the arrest of taxi boss, Gabela Gabs Mtshala, last week.

Charges against Mtshala were withdrawn due to a lack of evidence.

Provincial transport spokesperson, Unathi Binqose says the strike has severely affected scholar transport services, particularly in townships around East London.
