anc affirms economic policies amid world bank inequality report

The ANC has insisted that its economic policies remain relevant but admits that poor implementation has hindered its plans for improving the quality of life for South Africans.

This statement comes as the World Bank declares South Africa the most unequal society in the world, with unemployment reaching crisis levels.

Mamoloko Kubayi, Head of the ANCs Economic Transformation Committee, addressed the issue at the end of the partys National Executive Committee Lekgotla in Boksburg.

"The issue has been the direct implementation of those policies and the ANC previously would have acknowledged that from a policy point of view, we have never lacked. What we are seeing is the growth of the population between the 1996 first Census and 2022 there have been 20 million additional people," Kubayi said.

She further explained, "Thats a huge number for a country to deal with. So if you have been able to provide houses the number might be higher but because it is not growing in the manner that the population is growing is not showing the impact and thats why Census 2022 assists us and thats why many of us are emphasizing the need to use data as a decision-making process."
