Amsterdam has banned the constructionof new hotels as part of a policy to reduceovertourismand improve living conditions for locals.

The new measure prohibits the construction ofanynew hotels unless theyare replacing old hotelsthat have closed.Even then, thenewhotels bed count may not exceed that of its predecessors to maintain an accommodation capacity quota and must be betterin terms ofsustainability and modernity.

We want to make and keep the city liveable for residents and visitors, read a statement from the local government, which also noted that the city would cap overnight stays at 20 millionper year.
