Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim expressed his frustration at his team's failure to secure victory after surrendering a lead in a 1-1 draw with struggling West Ham on Thursday. The result leaves United in eighth place in the Premier League, just two points outside the top four, but recent missed opportunities mean they could have been challenging higher up the table.
United have previously failed to convert leads against Tottenham and Nottingham Forest, and also lost 1-0 at home to Everton despite having a numerical advantage for almost the entire match. Amorim said his side should have closed out the game by retaining possession, noting that the opportunity to win had been there.
"The game was under control. We knew we needed to defend far from our box, as any set pieces could be a problem. We couldn't do it, we couldn't maintain the ball, and again we lost two points," he said.
