Real Madrid head into the new La Liga season with renewed optimism under recently-appointed coach Xabi Alonso, aiming to leave behind a disappointing finale to the Carlo Ancelotti era with "ambitious" football.
Alonso, the former Liverpool and Madrid midfielder, acknowledged the work ahead after witnessing his side's 4-0 semi-final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at the Club World Cup in the United States this summer.
"Things are going to be different- we are starting from scratch," Alonso said, noting that lessons from the tournament will inform his approach.
