With the CAF Champions League final looming, Al Ahly continued their excellent form with a 4-1 trouncing of Al Ittihad in Cairo on Tuesday evening.

Since thumping TP Mazembe 3-0 in the second leg of their Champions League semifinal on April 26, the Red Eagles have racked up three straight wins in the Egyptian Premier League.

On Tuesday, Marcel Kollers team raced into a 3-0 lead before half time, courtesy of goals from Wessam Abou Ali, Reda Slim and Omar Kamal.

Benjamin Boateng pulled one back for Al Ittihad just before the hour mark, but a Mahmoud Kahraba penalty restored Ahlys three-goal advantage.

We put on a fantastic performance in the first half and scored three goals and we had the chance to add more goals, said Koller in the post-match press conference.

Ahly defender Omar Kamal put in an exceptional showing, both earning the penalty from which Wessam opened the scoring, as well as netting his first goal for the Cairo giants with a long-range strike in the 42nd minute.

Omar can send crosses with both feet and we use his pace and acceleration to break the opponents defence, noted Koller.

The Red Eagles are seventh in the league table with 30 points, but they have four games in hand on leaders Pyramids FC, who have 41 points.

Al Ahly next play Baladiyat El Mahalla on Saturday, before heading to Tunisia to face Esperance de Tunis in the first leg of the Champions League final, scheduled for 18 May.
