Airtel Uganda has expanded its 5G network to 365 sites across major towns including KampalaWakiso, Jinja, Mbale, Masaka, Mbarara, Gulu, Lira, Hoima, Fort Portal, and Kabale. This rollout brings high-speed connectivity to a wider population of both residents and businesses, ahead of the holiday season when data usage traditionally surges as people travel for Christmas celebrations.

The company initially launched 5G services two years ago with 50 sites concentrated in Kampala, a rollout that had previously been criticized for its relatively slow pace. The latest expansion reflects a sustained investment in network growth, adding numerous sites in recent months and extending coverage from the capital into key regional centres.

The expanded 5G infrastructure is designed to meet increasing demand for digital services and to support Ugandas broader digital transformation initiatives. The network is expected to enable faster home broadband, digital education, telemedicine, smart manufacturing, commercial agriculture, remote working, and other business solutions, while improving overall connectivity and user experience.
