actionsa vows to monitor probe into claims against police minister

ActionSA says it will keep a hawks eye on the investigations into the allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

Mkhwanazi made damning allegations against Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, whos been placed on special leave by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The partys member of parliament, Dereleen James, says theyve noted the election of African National Congress ANC MP Molapi Soviet Lekganyane as chair of the committee. The party holds the view that the committee should not be chaired by any member of parliament from a party whose members are directly implicated in the allegations.

James says doing so would erode public confidence and compromise the process. She says the party will, however, contribute to the committees work in the interest of justice and accountability.

We believe that the nature of these allegations, which involve a sitting cabinet member with alleged links to criminal syndicates, demands a process beyond reproach. ActionSA is not a passive observer in the fight against corruption. We will use our representation on this committee to ensure its work is conducted independently and transparently with a firm resolve to uncover the truth.
