Eight former ActionSA councillors in the City of Johannesburg have filed an urgent court application. They are seeking an interdict preventing the party from replacing them, pending the outcome of a dispute regarding their contested dismissal from the council.

The spokesperson for the applicants, Elmari Atterbury, says the matter will be heard on Tuesday before the High Court, in Johannesburg. Atterbury says the councillors, whove already vacated their seats in the Council, were informed of their removal at end of September.

These councillors contend that their removal was procedurally flawed and politically motivated and carried out without due process. Two cease and desist letters were sent to Action South Africas leadership, urging the party to hold any replacement process until the matter was resolved, but these were ignored. The applicants the matter is more than the individual councillors, says Atterbury.
