The Border Management Authority BMA Commissioner ,Mike Masiapato says 42 travellers were denied entry into the country due to health risks identified between April 1 and June 30, this year.
The agency also says about 24 suspected malaria cases were referred to public health facilities. It has continued to screen travellers to the country for communicable diseases.
Masiapato briefed the media in Pretoria on new security measures aimed at boosting traveller verification and law enforcement at ports of entry.
Additional to the screening of travellers, our port health team do monitor the importation of health related products such as food stuffs, cosmetics, disinfectants, hazardous substances, human remains and biological products, including tobacco for compliance to various pieces of legislation under the national department of health, he adds.
