Nigerian singers Burna Boy and Asake are the joint most-nominated African artists for the MTV 2025 Video Music Awards, with two nominations each.
Burna Boy was nominated in the Video For Good category for Higher and the Best Afrobeats category for Tatata featuring Travis Scott, while Asake was nominated twice in the Best Afrobeats category for Active featuring Travis Scott and Get It Right with Tems.
The rest of the African contingent - Rema, Moliy, Tems, Wizkid and Tyla - received one nomination each in the Best Afrobeats category, except for Ayra Starr, who was nominated in the MTV PUSH Performance of the Year category for Last Heartbreak Song.
Overall, American singer Lady Gaga lead the nominees with 12 nominations including Best Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and Video of the Year.
MTV 2025 Video Music Awards will be held on September 7 at the USB Arena in New York.
