The Johannesburg metropolitan police department JMPD has arrested 182 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol in the first week of December as festive season road safety operations intensify across the city.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said the arrests were made between December 1 and 7 during heightened roadblocks, vehicle checkpoints and targeted patrols across all seven regions of Johannesburg.
The JMPD is sending a clear and uncompromising message to all road users that driving under the influence will not be tolerated, Fihla said.
