At least 13 teams have been eliminated during the group stage of the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup taking place in the United States.
Among the latest exits is Boca Juniors, who crashed out after a 1-1 draw against Auckland City. The Argentine side needed a win to stay in contention, but their fate also depended on Bayern Munich defeating Benfica. However, Benfica edged out the German champions with a narrow 1-0 victory, securing top spot in the group and sending Boca home.
Tunisian club Esperance also saw their campaign come to an end after a heavy 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in a match played early Wednesday morning. Goals from Tosin Adarabioyo, Liam Delap, and Tyrique George sealed the comfortable win for the Premier League side.
The other teams that have been eliminated are: FC Porto, Al Ain, Wydad AC, Atletico Madrid, Seattle Sounders, Al Ahly, Los Angeles FC, Auckland City, Pachuca, Ulsan HD and Urawa Red Diamonds.
