When an SAIE school agriculture lesson planted the idea, a pupil from Kewtown, Athlone set out to transform an empty patch of land opposite his home into a now flourishing community garden, CapetownEtc reports.
An instagram video by the South African Institute of Entrepreneurship SAIE shares Jihaads story. It all started 2 years ago, after SAIE helped Athlone North Primary set up classroom plots and run entrepreneurship lessons that led pupils to harvest and sell vegetables at a market day.
Over a school holiday, Jihaad, cleared the site with friends and family, removed rubbish and prepared beds. He taught himself basic soil care.
