When I heard that former Proteas cricketer Paul Adams started a foundation last week, writes Gasant Abarder, it filled my heart with joy. As a kid straight out of high school, who looked like me, he did the unthinkable by starring for the national team. And now, the guy from the Cape Flats who showed us all what was possible is doing even more to give back.
Imagine the scene. You're 12 years old, minding your business in the school holidays, when a police van pulls up, and the officers from Woodstock Police Station order you and your friend to stand against a wall so they can search you.
They're looking for something that you don't have. Drugs? Perhaps. A weapon? Almost certainly. You dare not speak back, or else you don't know what is waiting for you.
