Madlanga commissions Witness D, now identified as Marius van der Merwe, declined an offer of witness protection, Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi has revealed.
Van der Merwe was gunned down outside his home in Brakpan, Gauteng, on Friday night 5 December.
He owned QRF Task Team, a security company, and previously served in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department EMPD. He was also involved in efforts to combat illegal mining.
