heavy rains force vaal dam to open 10 sluice gates

The Department of Water and Sanitation has opened ten of the Vaal Dams sixty sluice gates as heavy inflows and persistent rainfall continue to swell the Vaal River system.

With water levels rising, emergency teams remain on high alert to protect communities living along the riverbanks from potential flooding.

Ten sluice gates of the Vaal Dam have been opened to maintain the water supply system. The dam is receiving a massive 1.5 million litres of water every second, enough to fill half an Olympic-size swimming pool.
