The Department of Transport in Gauteng says it will not be bullied as it continues to work on restoring law and order on the provinces public roads by maintaining that citizens have the right to choose whichever mode of public transport that they want to use.
The department has impounded over 16 vehicles for various offences including for illegal operations and vehicle roadworthiness.
This has angered taxi association Santaco and they have decided to halt operations in parts of Benoni and Katlehong, leaving commuters stranded.
