Equinix, the global data centre operator that acquired MainOne, has announced plans to build a new 22 million facility in Lagos - its first newly constructed data centre in West Africa.
The new facility, named LG3, will serve both local and international companies looking to scale into Nigeria, with operations scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2026. The project marks the start of Equinix's 100 million investment strategy aimed at expanding Africa's digital infrastructure over the next two years.
Lagos, which has over 18 million internet subscribers and accounts for more than 30 of Nigeria's data centre market, is a key hub for fintechs, telecom operators, and subsea cable systems.
