The Government of Canada has launched a pilot program to test digital visas as part of its ongoing efforts to modernize immigration services and improve service delivery. For this trial, a select group of Moroccan citizens who have been approved for visitor visas may be invited to receive a digital version of their visa in addition to the traditional physical counterfoil in their passports.
The pilot aims to gather feedback from participants, helping the government design digital visas that are secure, user-friendly, and accessible. It also allows officials to test compatibility with third-party systems, such as airline verification processes, ensuring that digital visas can function smoothly within existing travel infrastructure.
Digital visas are intended to make travel to Canada faster, safer, and more convenient. By reducing the need to mail passports for visa counterfoils, these digital documents enhance verification and security while allowing travelers to share only the information necessary for entry. Additionally, they offer potential efficiency gains for program delivery and could reduce costs associated with printing and mailing physical visas.
