Manchester United climbed to sixth in the Premier League after a commanding 4-1 victory over bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers, extending their unbeaten run away from home to five matches. The result was a strong response from United, who were coming off a disappointing 1-1 draw in which West Ham struck late to deny them all three points last weekend, Softfootball reports.
Despite Wolves entering the match rooted to the bottom of the table with just two points from their opening 14 games, one of the worst starts in English top-flight history it was the hosts who began brightly. Diogo Dalot and Bryan Mbeumo forced early saves from Sam Johnstone as Ruben Amorim's side looked to spark life into a desperate season.
But United soon took control. In the 25th minute, Casemiro dispossessed Andre in midfield and released former Wolves forward Matheus Cunha, who squared for Bruno Fernandes to bundle home from close range. The Red Devils nearly doubled their advantage moments later when Cunha saw a goal-bound effort cleared off the line by Toti Gomes.
