The victory, their fourth straight in the league under Hansi Flick, keeps the pressure firmly on Real Madrid, who sit two points behind but still have a game in hand, and puts the ghost of the horrendous 3-0 Champions League defeat to Chelsea firmly behind them.
Things didn't start smoothly for Barca. In fact, they fell behind almost instantly. A miskick from Marc Casado gifted Pablo Ibanez a golden chance inside the opening minute, and the Alaves midfielder pounced from close range. The visitors nearly doubled their lead moments later, but Joan Garcia reacted sharply to prevent an early disaster.
